Kaguya (かぐや) is based on Kaguyahime from the Japanese folktale, The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter. The woman was known for her enchanting beauty and for her surreal origins within a bamboo stalk. After her brief stay within the mortal realm, the maiden returned to her immortal home on the moon.
